“Rotating Vessel”

Standing fixed at a single point on the earth, I gaze up at the sky. Clouds drift by, the sun leans westward. I feel with certainty that I am unmoving. Yet the very ground beneath me is rotating and carrying me through the heavens.

There is a vast gap between what I feel and what is actually happening. I sense and think, confident in my own existence—yet that sense of self likely belongs to a far larger structure.

As I questioned that certainty, I carved vivid, colorful metal to evoke the image of orbiting through space.
