Molten pure silver is poured into four square molds. As it enters, the heat is drawn away, and the liquid silver gradually solidifies. During this process, the thermally expanded liquid contracts, reducing its volume. The upper surface of the mold, which remains molten the longest, concentrates all of the shrinkage stress, giving rise to uncontrolled, crater-like forms.
Though produced under identical conditions, each of the four ingots reveals a different expression and shape, exposing the universe’s hidden rhythms in the liminal space between
